This time it’s China that’s pumpin’ the markets with sweet talk of a trade deal. After yesterdays’ trolling on Twitter by the CCP mouthpiece Hu Xijin that a trade deal is a distant prospect at best, Vice Premier Liu He took the airwaves by doing the exact opposite. In a speech in Beijing he told the audience he’s “cautiously optimistic” about reaching the much-vaunted Phase one deal. In his speech the Vice Premier even addressed key US concerns on IP and mercantilism. The timing of the speech is particular interesting because it comes after the US House overwhelmingly voted for the Hong Kong sanctions bill. And because the majority in favor of the bill in both houses of Congress is more than 2/3, President Trump has no choice but to sign it into law. Which is precisely what he will do according to reports.
